Corroded brake fittings
Although I have ridden my Blackbird throughout the UK winter, as indeed I have with all my previous bikes, it has not faired too well regarding corrosion in certain areas. In particular, the black coated crimped ends and banjo bolts for both front and rear brake calipers have completely lost said coating. As has the U shaped bracket which connects the fork leg mounted auxiliary master cylinder for the linked system.
My cleaning regime has been the same as for my previous bike, a Hinckley Triumph Thruxton, which had far more chrome and exposed aluminium. Both bikes were treated to several liberal applications of ACF 50 anti corrosion treatment and a weekly wash using S Doc power gel or Wurth bike cleaner. After 18 months the Thruxton looked pretty much as good as new whereas the Honda, in the aforementioned areas, looked somewhat worse for wear after a mere 6 months. The bike was returned to Pidcocks Honda for evaluation and Mick, the head of the service department, e mailed a few digital photo´s of the corrosion to Honda along with a warranty claim.
I´m pleased to report that Honda have agreed to replace all the caliper mounted brake hoses and banjo bolts plus the U bracket and Pidcocks will carry out the work as soon as all the parts are in.
